Sergeant Ruawai Maaka of the Wellington Police enlists the aid of Officers Minogue and O'Leary to tackle paranormal events in New Zealand's capital city. In a police reality show style, the 6 part series follows these kiwi cops as they investigate cases such as the demon possession of a teenager, a noise complaint at a haunted house and a blood bank robbery.
The plot of Wellington Paranormal season 1 is dedicated to two police officers who visited the home of the main characters (vampires) of the original film. The story of New Zealand policemen O’Leary (Karen O’Leary) and Minogue (Mike Minogue) is in the spotlight in season 1 of the pseudo-documentary show. They protect Wellington from a variety of paranormal evil, like local vampires and werewolves. And the city is just teeming with paranormalism: then the gates to hell will suddenly burst open, then zombies will crawl out of nowhere, then the undying ghosts organize a noisy party. In addition, one of the main characters of the full-length original is involved in the series: the new vampire Nick (Cori Gonzalez-Macuer). Taika Waititi himself described the concept of Wellington Paranormal as “a series about Mulder and Scully in a city where nothing happens.”Read more »
