Set in the 1970s, this ensemble comedy follows a traditional Irish-Catholic family, the Clearys, as they navigate big and small changes during one of America's most turbulent decades. In a working-class neighborhood outside Los Angeles, Mike and Peggy raise eight boisterous boys who live out their days with little supervision. The household is turned upside down when oldest son Lawrence returns home and announces he's quitting the seminary to go off and "save the world." Times are changing and this family will never be the same. There are 10 people, three bedrooms, one bathroom and everyone in it for themselves.

The events of The Kids are Alright season 1 take place in a 1970s Los Angeles suburb around an Irish Catholic family. Simple worker Mike Cleary (Michael Cudlitz) and his wife Peggy (Mary McCormack) have 8 sons of different ages: from a Catholic seminary student to an infant baby. The kids behave like typical madcaps: do not give rest to parents, get bad grades at school, fight, make a mess at home, and do not try to help their tired parents at all. Frank and Joey go on a journey, without warning their parents, William quarrels with his mother, Lawrence comes into conflict with his father about President Nixon. However, all conflicts in the family are eventually resolved peacefully, because Clearies love each other and forgive minor weaknesses and misdeeds.
