Set in Memphis during the tumultuous early days of the civil rights movement, Sun Records tells the untold story of nothing less than the birth of rock ‘n’ roll. Guided by Sam Phillips, young musicians like Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis combined the styles of hillbilly country with the 1950s R&B sound created by artists like Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Fats Domino and Ike Turner, and changed the course of music forever. The series chronicles the young artists’ often jarring and sudden meteoric rise to fame in the face of sweeping political change and social unrest.
The events of the series develop in the 50-60s of the 20th century. It tell the story of the most popular independent label Sun Resords. The founder of the label is Sam Phillips. He worked as a disc jockey at the radio station in Alabama in the 1940-ies. In 1952 he founded the music Studio in Memphis. In 50-e years Sam Phillips was looking for new artists for record. His motto was "We record everything, everywhere and at any time." A key figures of the rock ' n ' roll as Elvis Presley, CARM Perkins, johnny cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and others recorded their first albums at that time. Many artists of rock-n-roll became legends with this label. They blew up a dance floor.
