Set in a geriatric extended care wing of a down-at-the-heels hospital, Getting On follows put-upon nurses, anxious doctors and administrators as they struggle with the darkly comic, brutally honest and quietly compassionate realities of caring for the elderly.
The series takes place at the womenâ€™s extended-care ward in a hospital in Long Beach, Calif. The main characters: the veteran nurse Dawn Forchette, newly hired nurse DiDi Ortley, the ambitious, overstressed Dr. Jenna James, the supervising nurse Beverly Raymes, the new supervising nurse, Patsy De La Serda. Getting On season 2 finds Dr. James on a research binge, measuring anal-genital distances of her geriatric population, as well as of lab rats, while promoting the wardâ€™s hospice program to bring in extra cash. Nurse Didi wants a raise, which ultimately sweeps her up into Dr. Jamesâ€™ mad, mad research world. Nurse Dawn is spinning ever onward toward being the best not-so-good nurse in the history of television as she continues to try and bag co-worker Patsy. What happens when it comes to old age? Only pills, forgetfulness and chronic fatigue? Maybe, but not in Mount Palms Memorial Hospital. It is a place where events of the series "Getting On" develop and it is so lively and overcrowded with events that the diseases often fade into the background. In the center of the plot of the second season, as it was before, there is medical staff of the nursing home. They are still trying to break the wheel of bureaucracy, which does not allow to provide the necessary assistance to patients. Heroes still have a lot of personal problems that begin with overweight and end with the family turmoil. The contradictions often arise inside of the medical staff and, and grow into hatred and such unpleasant situations often affect adversely their work as a whole. But even with such difficulties, the heroes will be able to find a way out. They will continue to perform their duties, because of their concentration and confidence depend the lives of many patients. The viewer can only watch as medical staff will cope with all the problems in their path and how humor helps to survive in tough times.Read more »
